David Carroll McKenzie

David Carroll McKenzie, age 63, of Jacksonville, NC, and formerly of West Liberty, KY, passed away March 2, 2026, in Jacksonville, NC. David was born May 31, 1962, in Dayton, OH, son of Hershel and Wanda Nell Collins-McKenzie. David was a heavy equipment operator on Camp Lejeune. Marine Base. He was a previous business owner and owned several businesses in Morgan Co., KY, and took pride in his jobs. He loved the beach and the life he had built for himself in North Carolina. He accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his savior.

His parents, Hershel and Wanda Nell Collins-McKenzie, his son David Collin Mckenzie, his sister Sandra McKenzie, and his father-in-law Theodore "Sonny" Mitchell all preceded him in death. 

He is survived by his twin daughters, Keisha LaSha Ison and husband Caleb Ison of Olive Hill, KY, and Kendra NaSha McKenzie of West Liberty, KY. His best friend and mother of his children, Michelle Watson of West Liberty, KY, and his mother-in-law, Thelma June Mitchell of West Liberty, KY. Three brothers: Michael & Kathi McKenzie and Anthony & Kathy McKenzie, both of Ohio; and Kevin & Carrie McKenzie, of Morehead, KY.

Aunt Patricia Thaxton and Uncle David Thaxton. Six grandchildren, Presleigh, Taelon, Salem, Braylee, Calee, and Levi. Two best friends, Jake Kearney and Kenny McClain. Host of many relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, 2 pm, on March 8, 2026, at Herald & Stewart & Halsey Chapel, with Rev. Steven McKenzie and Deacon Christopher McKenzie speaking words of comfort to the family and friends. Interment in the West Liberty Memorial Gardens, West Liberty, KY, with military honors conducted by the Morgan County DAV, Chapter #132.

Visitation will be 11:30am Sunday, March 8, 2026, at Herald & Stewart & Halsey Funeral Home, West Liberty, KY. Pallbearers are Randy McKenzie, Christopher McKenzie, Kacie Gillespie, Jake Kearney, Jeremy Schwanz, and Kenny McClain.
